Before schools begin the work of the new year in earnest, we at BRIDGE want to take a moment to celebrate the hard-won success stories of education in 2016. One such story comes from the LEAP Science and Maths School in Ga-Rankuwa. The LEAP school forms part of the South African Extraordinary Schools Coalition. The coalition is a Community of Practice that is run by BRIDGE and is made up of school leaders and teachers from a group of 22 schools around South Africa that define themselves as “impact schools”. Impact schools are high-quality, achievement-orientated schools that provide disadvantaged learners across South Africa with affordable access (low fee or non-fee) to high-quality learning that prepares them for success in higher education and the world of work.

In this write-up, we hear from the LEAP Ga-Rankuwa’s school leader – Lawrence Manyesa – on the stellar results his matrics achieved in 2016, aided by the diligent efforts of the LEAP Ga-Rankuwa educators and the wider community. Read on!
